Abstract : “Recent studies that look at anti-gender politics point out that anti-gender actors are increasingly concerned with limiting the rights of trans* individuals and suggest the emergence of an ‘anti-trans coalition’ between anti-gender organizations, right-wing populist parties, and anti-trans organizations. This paper targets precisely such an emergent coalitional endeavour and addresses it through a transfeminist computational social science approach, for which large scale computational analysis of digital data is coupled with in-depth qualitative analysis to simultaneously detect regularities while respecting and leveraging on the inherent diversity of data. Building on social movement theories on boundary-spanning, we examine the internal reorganization of the Italian anti-gender galaxy starting from the “everyday digital labour” that these actors perform on Facebook and Instagram. We pay specific attention to the discursive similarities that speak to a process of convergence between the four sectors but also to the differences that signal the existences of potential rifts within this emergent coalition.”
