Tomas JAGELKA (CREST) – “The Effect of Consumer Reviews on Demand: Evidence from Amazon”
Abstract: The rapid growth in online sales has spawned a large literature in economics and marketing. There exists an intuitive understanding in both the business world and in academia that consumer reviews are influential. However, it remains unclear which aspects of reviews are effective and under what circumstances. This paper attempts to shed more light on the link between online reviews and market outcomes using a unique dataset containing price, rank, and review information from Amazon. com and four other national amazon websites.
