Johan VIKSTROM (IFAU Uppsala) – “Job-search assistance and displacement effects : Evidence from a randomized experiment ”

Abstract:

Three types of early interventions for unemployed Swedish job seekers are studied using a large-scale randomized social experiment. The design enables us to estimate both treatment and displacement effects. Our main findings are that early individual meetings with case workers and distance meetings using IT or telephones reduce the numbers of days in unemployment for the participants, whereas group meetings have a zero estimated effect. However, our estimates of displacement suggest that all of the estimated positive effects for participants comes at the expense of non-participants.
