CREST is a proudly international and unique center for scientific research at the cross-section of economics, finance, quantitative sociology and statistics with an ambitious graduate program in each discipline at the Master and PhD levels. 

Our primary location is in the ENSAE Paris building on the Palaiseau campus of Institut Polytechnique de Paris in the outskirts of the French capital with a secondary location on the Bruz campus of ENSAI in the outskirts of the city of Rennes.

Postdoctoral researcher

GENES

The successful candidate will join a team conducting research on information imperfections in labour markets, as part of the INASHI project (ERC-2022-COG Number 101087581). A key objective of the project is to generate new empirical evidence on the information frictions that hinder employers’ hiring processes, in collaboration with the French public employment service, France Travail. The successful candidate will work directly with Roland Rathelot, PI of the project.

The position does not require teaching. It is available starting June 2024 (with the possibility to start later) and can extend up to three years, subject to performance. Benefits include paid annual leave, flexible working hours, funds to attend workshops or seminars, and the opportunity to work on novel research data within the framework of the project.

Responsibilities include:

  • Being an integral member of the research team.
  • Working with data servers to manage large datasets and conduct econometric analyses.
  • Contributing to the preparation of data reports, research papers, and policy briefs.
  • Participating in meetings with policymakers, PES IT experts, employers, HR officers, and other stakeholders in the French labour market.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • You have recently obtained, or are about to complete, your PhD in economics.
  • You have a keen interest in labour markets, as well as a strong academic background in labour economics and applied econometrics, evidenced by a pipeline of high-quality research. Proficiency in computational methods, such as machine learning and structural modelling, will be considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in R is required. Additional coding expertise in Python and SQL will be considered beneficial.
  • You must be fluent in either French and English, and proficient in the other language in both spoken and written forms.
  • You are thorough, inquisitive, and able to make autonomous decisions; you understand when to discuss ongoing issues collaboratively.

As a collaborative team member, you enjoy engaging with fellow economists as well as with policymakers.
