SUMMARY:Heidi THYSEN (Norwegian School of Economics) - "Choosing Between Causal Interpretations: An Experimental Study (with Sandro Ambuehl)”
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire Microéconomie : Tous les mercredis\nHeure : 12h15 – 13h30\nDate : 26/03/2025\nSalle : 3001 \nHeidi THYSEN (Norwegian School of Economics) – “Choosing Between Causal Interpretations: An Experimental Study (with Sandro Ambuehl)” \nCV : Good decision-making requires understanding the causal impact of our actions. Often\, we only have access to correlational data that could stem from multiple causal mechanisms with divergent implications for choice. Our experiments comprehensively characterize choice when subjects face conflicting causal interpretations of such data. Behavior primarily reflects three types: following interpretations that make attractive promises\, choosing cautiously\, and assessing the fit of interpretations to the data. We characterize properties of interpretations that obscure bad fit to subjects. Preferences for more complex models are more common than those reflecting Occam’s razor. Implications extend to the Causal Narratives and Model Persuasion literatures. \nOrganisateurs : \nJulien COMBE (Pôle d’Economie du CREST)\nYves Le YAOUANQ (Pôle d’Economie du CREST)\nMatias NUNEZ (Pôle d’Economie du CREST) \nCommanditaires :\nCREST \n

SUMMARY:The CEPR Virtual Industrial Organisation Seminar Series (VIOS) - Spring 38
DESCRIPTION:The CEPR Virtual IO Seminar (VIOS) provides a short-run alternative to IO seminars cancelled due to travel restrictions brought on by the Coronavirus. Our long-run goal\, however\, is to turn it into a permanent platform for sharing the benefits of regular IO seminars. Seminars will be balanced between both theoretical and empirical approaches to IO. All seminars will take place on Wednesdays at 3 PM CET (Paris time). The meetings will take place every other week on Zoom (registration required). \nAll seminars take place on Wednesdays at 3PM CET (Paris time) on Zoom. \nEach seminar lasts for up to 60 minutes. The speaker’s presentation lasts for 45 minutes. There are one or two discussants that speak first after the paper to spur the debate\, followed by questions from the audience. Each seminar is moderated by the session host. \nTo attend this webinar\, please register here. \n26 March 2025: Michelangelo Rossi (CREST)\, Is Competition Only One Click Away? The Digital Markets Act Impact on Google Maps.  \nDiscussant: Garrett Johnson (Boston University). \n
