SUMMARY:Francesca ZUCCHI (European Central Bank) "Dynamic Carbon Emission Management"
DESCRIPTION:Quantitative Sustainable Economics and Finance\nTime: 11.00 am\nDate: 30th of November 2023\nRoom 2036 \nFrancesca ZUCCHI (European Central Bank) “Dynamic Carbon Emission Management” \nAbstract : The control of carbon emissions by policymakers poses the corporate challenge of developing an optimal carbon management policy. We provide a unified model that characterizes how firms should optimally manage emissions through production\, green investment\, and the trading of carbon credits\, as well as the implications for asset prices. We show that carbon regulation induces firms to tilt towards more immediate yet transient types of green investment—such as abatement as opposed to innovation—as it becomes more costly to comply. Perhaps surprisingly\, firms with a large stock of carbon credits are less committed to curbing emissions. Lastly\, even if more polluting firms command a higher risk premium\, carbon regulation need not reduce firm value. \nJoint work : Maria Cecilia Bustamante (University of Maryland) \n\nOrganizers: \nPeter TANKOV (CREST) – Olivier David ZERBIB (CREST) \n  \nSponsors:\nCREST \n

SUMMARY:Nora WAITKUS (Université de Tilbourg and LSE) - Wealth Differences: Assessing Macro-Level and Micro-Level Variations Across National Contexts
DESCRIPTION:Sociology seminar – Thursdays\nTime: 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm \nDate: 30th November 2023\nPlace: room 3105 \nZOOM  : https://zoom.us/j/96820777040?pwd=OUgycU1NYmxWOEJCTk92OHpNTHc5dz09 \nNora WAITKUS (Université de Tilbourg and LSE) – Wealth Differences: Assessing Macro-Level and Micro-Level Variations Across National Contexts\nAbstract: \nResearch on cross-national differences in wealth levels and inequality so far fails to establish why these differences exist. Inequality in marketable wealth is equally high in very different national contexts (for example the US\, Norway and Germany)\, however\, the function of wealth diverges as welfare provision\, labor markets and educational systems vary in their degree of (de-)commodification etc. Despite these macro-level differences\, micro-level evidence on wealth gaps between different socio-demographic groups have not been systematically addressed across national contexts: in this presentation\, I will link these two processes and provide ample evidence not only on variations of wealth levels and inequality across countries\, but link them to the micro-level patterns of inclusion and exclusion of different socio-demographic groups from wealth. \n  \n  \nOrganizers: Annina Cleasson\, Paola Tubaro\, Patrick Präg (CREST Sociology unit) \n  \nSponsors: CREST \n  \n
