DESCRIPTION:\nThe Microeconometrics Seminar: Every Tuesday at 12:15 pm.\nTime: 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm\nDate: 7th of september 2018 : Exceptionaly friday\nPlace: Room 3105 : Exceptionaly room 3105\nRoland RATHELOT(University of Warwick)  – “Gender differentials in reservation utility\, wage and commuting distance” \nAbstract: We measure the gender gap in reservation utility\, using a unique dataset where we can match job seekers’ preferences on several dimensions of the job they are looking for — reservation wage\, maximum commute\, type of contract and working hours — to the precise characteristics of the jobs preceding and following their unemployment spell. We find that\, controlling for previous job characteristics\, unemployed females have a lower reservation wage but declare lower maximum commute than men. Controlling for the previous job alleviates the concern that these gender differences are driven by discrimination or productivity differences. We also find that women spend more time in non-employment\, but that the gap disappears\, when taking the reservation utility differences into account.
