DESCRIPTION:\nThe Microeconomics Seminar: Every Wednesday at 12:15 pm. \nTime: 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm\nDate: 28th of March 2018\nPlace: Room 3001. \nAnasuya RAJ (CREST) – “On the political economy of the income-tax threshold” joint with Pierre Boyer \nAbstract: This paper develops a conceptual framework to analyze the political forces affecting the income-tax threshold in a non-linear tax system. Firstly\, we study how reforms affecting marginal tax rates and the income-tax threshold can be politically feasible. Our main theoretical results show the relationship between the types of reforms affecting the income-tax threshold and the identity of the decisive voters who make them politically feasible. In particular\, we prove that the individual with median income is not necessarily decisive.
