Abstract:
We propose one of the first dynamic models of the optimal transition from fossil fuels to renewables in electricity generation taking into account the variability and intermittency of renewable energy sources and storage. Our objectives are first to assess to what extent variability and intermittency actually constitute a serious obstacle to energy transition, and second to measure the value of storage.
